Love In the Air for the Words tallest

The world's tallest man has fulfilled his life-long dream of finding love and getting married. Sultan Kosen, 30, who stands at 8ft 3in, towers over his new bride, 21 year-old Merve Dibo who measures 5 foot 9inchs. Sultan rose to fame in 2009 when he was named the world's tallest man by Guinness World Records. On his first visit to London in September 2009 he said that he hoped his newfound fame would change his life, and help him find a wife: He said: “It’s really difficult to find a girlfriend. They are usually scared of me.  Hopefully now that I'm famous I'll be able to meet lots of girls.  My dream is to be married."  In the two years that followed Sultan’s life did change as he received free life-saving surgery to stop his growth, as well as specially tailored clothing and the opportunity to travel the world. Africa Competitiveness Report 2013

Africa Competitiveness Report 2013

On a biennial basis, The Africa Competitiveness Report highlights areas requiring policy action and investment to ensure Africa lays the foundation for inclusive and sustained growth.
The Africa Competitiveness Report 2013 comes at a time of growing international attention on Africa as an investment destination and increasing talk of an African economic renaissance. It is the fourth report in this series to leverage the knowledge and expertise of the three partnering organizations – the African Development Bank, the World Bank Group and the World Economic Forum – to present a joint policy vision for Africa. Under the theme Connecting Africa’s Markets in a Sustainable Way, this year’s report explores how Africa can connect its markets and communities through increased regional integration as a key to raising competitiveness, diversifying its economic base and creating jobs for its young, fast-urbanizing population.
Through a comprehensive analysis of Africa’s most pressing competitiveness challenges, the report discusses the barriers to increased trade, including the state of Africa’s infrastructure and its legal and regulatory environment. It similarly considers how innovative public-private partnerships, often anchored to potential growth poles, can serve as incubators for self-sustaining industrialization, more jobs, greater opportunities and more dynamic regional integration. The report includes detailed competitiveness profiles for 38 African countries, providing a comprehensive summary of the drivers of productivity and competitiveness in countries across the continent.weforum.org-africa-competitiveness-report-2013

SPEECH BY H.E. HON. UHURU KENYATTA,C.G.H., PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE DEFENCE FORCES OFTHE REPUBLIC OF KENYA

This marked the new dawn in Kenya after a peaceful election.. we are now ready to move forward

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta s Inaugural Speech

Can we transform hate into forgiveness? From Trauma To Peace

Can we transform trauma and its debilitating states of anger, violence and hate, to peace - compassion, forgiveness and love? We can, and it is happening in isolated regions of Africa.
 People CAN break the cycle of violence and feel hope and joy again. Please help us in our efforts to bring peace to our world, one person - and one community - at a time, through TFT. This film will help create the awareness that entire traumatised communities can help themselves go from trauma to peace.

Reasons Why I Believe in & am Happy Kivutha Kibwana is My Governor

  1.      He loves God;
  2.    He is an enlightened professional, IT savvy and a person of high   integrity; This makes him a good manager of the county resources;
  3.       He is reality Driven: focuses on here and now most and into the   future with little attention of the past. This, I believe will transform Makueni County into the “Asia” of Kenya;
  4.     He has the ‘feel’ of the youth and women;
  5.     He is calm, collected, intelligent;
  6.     He has great knowledge and has good land policies: This will help in cushioning Makueni county from issues of boundaries both county level (Konza and Voi) and local level;
  7.     He is warm to people and connects with all levels of people; He has great networks;  His poetic skills are excellent and always have a message. I remember his poem in Kikumini Parish in 2006 which was very touching;
  8.     He is passionate about his work;
  9.     He is aware of sustainable development strategies for Makueni County;
  10.     He is a team player and believes in people.

The Land Policy

My take on Historical Injustices/Land-Related problems in Kenya:
It is a historical injustice for the Kenyatta family to own (it is said) half a million acres of land, all over this country (including thousands of acres in Coast Province). The defence that this land was bought is no defence at all, because this land could not have been otherwise obtained if Jomo Kenyatta had not been the President (i.e. the Kenyattas would not have this land if Jomo Kenyatta had not been the nation's first President). Now that's the truth, and I don't know why we're afraid of saying it. And I hope those who read it are willing to at least admit that these issues are a problem for our nation.

(Parenthetically, the same family, in league with others of ill-repute, and with their own land cases in court as we speak, is in the middle of visiting yet another injustice upon Kenyans, by standing for election while standing accused at the ICC of crimes against humanity.)

How can we solve this problem? The Government should charge an annual tax of KES 1,000 per year per acre on all land, freehold or leasehold. This is manageable if you hold 1 acre of maize in Western or a ka-quarter in Kitengela (KES 250 per year). But if you have 100,000 acres, that's KES 100 million annually. Such landowners would have to either
(1) Sell that land, or
(2) Lease it, or
(3) Somehow make it produce that Ksh 1,000 per year, thereby creating employment.
All of these outcomes are helpful, are they not?
I would add that the Government should have the first right-of-purchase on the sale of such land, at close to purchase prices as well. Thereafter the National Land Commission can issue policy on how this land should be used, because land fragmentation is another issue that pulls in the opposite direction of what the KES 1,000 tax would achieve. The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity - or it will move apart.
